Muscle of Spirit and Emotions; psoas

Our body consists of a structure that contains more than one complex system in itself. Structures that make up the body, such as the skeleton, muscle, and nervous systems, contribute to its functioning. In this way, it is possible to perform bodily functions. However, in addition to its physical functions, human body chemistry, which is an intellectual and mental being, contains much more.

Our bodily functioning does not work independently of the influence of our mental states. If we have a stressful and tiring life, we feel the same effects in our own body. The responsibilities we take, our burdens in life, the traumas we experience physically and emotionally find expression in our body and become cells. We need to connect with our body in order to hear what it wants to tell us. Thanks to the sensitivity of our approach to the body, especially in yoga practices, we learn to approach it with compassion and understanding. Thus, we find a chance to relax and unwind in the body, which feels more revitalized and lighter by being relieved of the burdens we have placed on it.

Especially in these days that we are going through, I observe the effects of the pain and difficult days we experience as a society, physically. My body is more solid, especially on the stiffness in the back and neck regions, I took care to do my own practice in a way that would be good for these regions.

Apart from what we see from the outside, we can also physically observe the effects of the situations in our minds in more internal areas. Our emotions are directly related to a muscle in our body called the Psoas. The psoas muscle is also known as the muscle of the soul. This muscle, which acts by connecting the upper body to the lower body, connects to the spine from the same origin with the diaphragm muscle. The tensions we experience as a result of the stress we encounter show themselves as breathing irregularities in the respiratory system. This causes this muscle, which is connected at the same point with the diaphragm, to interact directly with the life energy in our breathing and to be exposed to the effects of our emotional and mental states in the first degree.

We help relieve tension by stretching this muscle, especially in yoga movements. Thanks to regular practices, it is possible to connect with our emotional area, to meet the stress we experience in this area, and to support ourselves.

The practice of yoga, which supports us especially when we are going through difficult times, actually has much more benefits than meets the eye.

It is one of the simplest things we can do for healing to listen to our body at such times and make it move by doing good works. How about meeting our own potential with an open heart and courage by finding the opportunity to experience more enjoyment from our own body by reducing the hardening and congestion we experience energetically?
